About
aotp is a professional Development Programme, a Community, and a go-to Resource for Indian creative & technical professionals
India has immense talent and thousands of years of culture. What we need to do to take our place on the world stage is create opportunities for those with talent and ambition to excel in technical theatre and design.
This is backed by the extensive research the NCPA commissioned Art X Company to conduct in 2021, supported by the British Council. A series of interviews, focus groups, and round table discussions were held with working performing arts professionals across India. The report highlighted how disenfranchised those who work in live events feel and what their specific problems are.
Our response to that report is the Art of the Possible programme.
Our Vision
We envision a stronger, upskilled, confident and secure workforce of creative technicians who are valued for their skills and expertise, and are feted by the audience and policymakers alike. Through aotp, we aim to ensure that:
- India’s theatrical and musical stage productions sit proudly and confidently alongside the best in the world.
- Our initiative addresses the significant challenges facing professionals working across multiple genres of performing arts across the country.
- Our emphasis will be on creativity, while putting the safety and well-being of all those working on the production first.
- Better produced shows will lead to longer runs in multiple venues, attracting larger audiences with greater reach and impact.
about NCPA
The National Centre for the Performing Arts is India’s premier cultural destination. A hub of creativity. A centre of excellence, where imagination is unleashed and the art of the possible explored.
The NCPA theatre division creates, presents and hosts world-class theatre that entertains, challenges and inspires.
Our goal is to reach the widest and most diverse audience possible. Animating our flexible range of spaces with a mix of live and screened events in a variety of languages. Our programming ranges from classic plays to new writing, physical theatre, musicals, live and streamed broadcasts, spoken word, classic cinema and stand-up comedy, created and performed by the very best local, national, and international artists.
We invest in the future of Indian theatre by developing talent, building and diversifying our audiences, partnering with local companies, and collaborating with the very best arts organisations in the world.
This exchange of ideas, creativity, and resources ensures the NCPA is not only the host of but also the creator of extraordinary theatre experiences.
We aim to play a significant part in the development of the new generations of artists, technicians, and arts enthusiasts, by building an extensive nationwide learning and participation programme supporting creative education for people of all ages. Through much of our ever-evolving, responsive work, our aim is to help expand horizons for all, not just by engaging in the experience of live performance, but also through a series of projects, events, and classes that enhance our life skills and feed into every walk of life.
